I'm so glad you wrote this. I am a parent to an autistic child and that article disgusted me. I never wouldve considered abortion for my daughter. My girl was extremely premature and I was warned over and over again of the problems she could face. I was given the choice to pull her off life support.I could never. Only God can make that decision.I stayed by her side and am so grateful to have her in my life. We do experience difficult days, but she has filled my life with so much purpose. She is why I'm here. My life would be nothing without my perfect autistic blind daughter.she has definitely not ruined my life, she has actually made me a better person. There is plenty of room in my life for any type of person!thanks again for pointing out the ignorance in the author of that article.

Thank you all for your comments.

To answer your question on my opinion of the orgions of autism, well there are many theories.

Is it vaccinations?

Well, I really don't know what the cause was in my situation. I have little to do with my parents who were busy raising 4 children. The time I would have started to show symptoms of autism was when my mother was busy having two other children two weeks short of a year apart. One was born with severe allergic reactions and contracted spinal menegitis, leaving my mother busy in the hospital and pregnant to boot.

The birth of my baby sister during this time with diabetes and a strict regimin of massage to keep her circualtion going meant that much of the time I was in the care of others.

It was thought then that my lack of bonding to those around me was due to failure to thrive and the constant change of caregivers. My lack of communication skills was attributed to shyness.

So in my own case I do not know. It is certain that there are way to many factors in common with vaccination and autism concerning others on the spectrum. Too many factors to be mere coincidence.

You can understand that there are also food allergies that have also been assumably the cause for others symptoms of autism.

So in my own autistic opinon, there is more than one cause of autism. The factors related to each individual case must be judged or evaluated to that individual.

My stance on vaccination is if there is a history of autism in the family and you live in a populus area where most kids are vaccinated, that the risks of autism out weight the risk of disease and most of the kids your child may come into contact with will have been vaccinated and thus pose little risk of giving your child one of the diseases currently vacinated against.

I do feel that vaccinations are in part responsible for some of those on the spectrum, but that it is not the only cause of autism.

My nephew has autism. He is in college and doing very well. He is really keen on facts. It's hard to just have a discussion with him, but he is a joy just the same. If I say he is really smart, he says, "I know!" He works, drives and goes to school. I hope one day a girl will accept him as he is and love him for who he is. He is 31 and has never had a girlfriend. Some folks might think he is strange for his innocence. I just hope he can one day have children of his own.

I think you are an ecceptional human being, very eloquent in written speech. I am curious on your perspective on autism, do you think child hood vaccines are to blame? I have refrained from letting my child receive his MMR's, I don't know what to do! Thanks for posting, I thing people need to be informed of this, due to the high rise in autism numbers.

Holy cow! Jessie, I'm so sorry you experienced such trauma. I think even an NT person would be rattled for some time after the event. Glad you're okay.
