Getting Back to Normal, Normal for Autistic Me

Published by jessie at 9:37 am under 1 Edit This

It has been awhile since I have posted. As I have been making the necessary adjustments to my new job, I have had to prioritize my time and take extra down time to cope with the added stress. Thus, my blog has suffered.

Everyone experiences overwhelming stress from time to time; however, when it is combined with autism, certain steps are necessary to ensure a positive outcome.

Perhaps the laundry and house cleaning may suffer in you home. In my life, I have to limit activities that require more mental energy. This includes the time I spend on the computer, phone, and with friends. I spend much more time on activities that require little mental effort and actually clean more when I am stressed, thus my house has gone through a fall spring-cleaning and has serious potential at passing the white glove test.

Alas, life is getting back to normal. I still do not know the names of all of my new co-workers; however, can recognize them if I see them and have been accepted well enough.

My office is much quieter than the previous one. This office is complete with a separate secretary and the phone makes soft beeps when she comes over the intercom to transfer a call. There are two work areas, one I share with my other half the other is occupied by a quiet man who is politely conscious of any noises he makes. This separate space is away from the main offices and is complete with central air, no more wall unit to hum constantly in my face. The only distraction really is the ice machine outside that gets my attention as it dumps loads of ice or as employees scoop their coolers or drink glasses full.

Overall, it is a good arrangement. My other half is keeping a home office as well, so if I have particularly bad days I can stay home and complete my work. The biggest challenge has been all of the new faces and trying to socialize with them. I made the mistake yesterday of commenting during a political conversation and politely backed out with, “I am not good at political debates.” A very true statement that allowed for a quick and easy exit from what was to become a heated debate.

Well now that I have found some sort of comfort and normalcy, finally I am getting back to my blogging. Thank you for your continued patronage and support.

That’s wonderful, Jessie! And it seems like your other half has been sensitive to your needs which is a plus! I hope it works out well and glad to see you back!
