Containment, educate yourself before you impliment.

Autism can cause children to act out violently. In these situations, parents and siblings can find themselves on the other end of a fist or a well placed head butt.

What can you as a parent do to protect your child with autism from harming themselves or causing injury to someone else?

Consult your local psychiatric hospital to inquire about appropriate holds that you can use that will limit the physical harm that can be caused to your child or to someone else.

These training sessions also include very important techniques on how to keep your own emotions in check when dealing with an out of control child or person in a very high stress situation.

They also tech techniques on how to calm children who are in the middle of meltdowns.

The holds are only to contain and not to cause harm. They are a part of a system designed to deal with the most severe outbursts and not to be utilized unless absolutely necessary.

Part of the training teaches you when and when not to use these techniques to gain control over a potentially self-injurious situation or a situation that presents an immediate danger to another persons well being.

Please consult a professional prior to attempting any type of containment procedure, the incorrect methods can cause harm to children and untrained persons with the best of intentions may not be emotionally prepared to deal with such a high stress situation.

Containment, when used properly, can be a part of the treatment of out of control behaviors; however, practiced inappropriately they can lead to regression and escalation of unwanted aggressions and outbursts.
