Autism : The question of ability answered with flexability.
Having the support of family and teachers is key when the question of ability comes to mind. I often question my own ability when confronting obstacles. Sometimes it takes a long time for me to work out a problem or to complete what for others are simple tasks. A small measure of support from those around me is encouraging enough to keep me on task.
I had a long day today, with work and summer school. I found my paper took me much longer that usual and was prepared to give up. Instead of hurrying me along, my other half made dinner, allowed me to work on my paper, and even did the dishes when it was my night to cook and clean.
Lessening the pressure of by reducing my workload and allowing me the time it took to complete my task without controversy helped me to stay focused and not give up.
Sometimes we are so caught up in the day to day that when some wrench is thrown into the mix we forget to adapt. There is no way that with dinner and dishes that I would have gotten my schoolwork done before the deadline and I did not wait until the last minute.
It has just been a long day and I my ability to work through all of my readings was complicated by a hot summer day, a longer than usual workday, and a tired brain.
Thank you to those who can respect the fact that sometimes dinner and dishes night has to fall to you when extenuating circumstances come into play and an autistic brain just does not want to function.
